Pennsylvania NOW PAC and NOW PAC Urge Open Primaries in Pennsylvania Races
March 23, 2006
Pennsylvania NOW PAC members will be on hand this Saturday, March 25, to tell the Pennsylvania Democratic Party that women need real choices when they go to the polls. By opening the primaries in every contested statewide race, the party can guarantee that every voter has a choice in who represents them in Harrisburg and Washington, D.C.
Several bids for statewide office—including the crucial race to unseat incumbent right-wing Sen. Rick Santorum—are being sought by feminist and pro-women candidates who haven't been anointed by the Democratic leadership. Activists from PA NOW PAC will remind the party that elections should be decided by voters—not party officials.
"We're sending a message to the party that women won't support candidates who don't support women's rights," said Pennsylvania NOW President Joanne Tosti-Vasey. "A choice between two anti-abortion candidates, or two candidates opposed to equal rights, is no choice at all."
