NOW PAC Endorsement of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton for President of the United States
Passed by the NOW PAC March 2007
WHEREAS, the purpose of the National Organization For Women (NOW) is to take action to bring women into full participation in the mainstream of American society now, exercising all the privileges and responsibilities thereof in truly equal partnership with men; and
WHEREAS, in 1992, NOW PAC helped usher in the "Year of the Woman" by mobilizing activists, increasing women's political participation, and turning out the women's vote with our "Elect Women for a Change" campaigns, and over the course of the past 30 years, has helped to dramatically increase the number of women serving in political office at every level; and
WHEREAS, in the 40 years since NOW's founding, even though the rights of women have advanced farther than in any previous generation, women still do not have full equality, and although more feminist women than ever before have moved into positions of elective power, there remains another marble ceiling to shatter; and
WHEREAS the National Organization for Women understands the need for strong, experienced and principled leadership to restore faith in our government and repair its credibility at home and abroad, and to end the destructive policies that have eroded our civil liberties and increased injustice and inequality in our society; and
WHEREAS, for the first time in history, the front-running candidate for a major party nomination for U.S. president is an exceptional woman with a long history of support for women's rights, whose public record is testimony to her leadership on issues important to women in the U.S. and around the world; and
WHEREAS, Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton has eloquently articulated the need for full economic, political and social equality for women in every institution of society, taking action throughout her career — as a lawyer, community leader, First Lady, Senator and candidate for the presidency — to advance the civil and human rights of women and girls;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the National Organization for Women Political Action Committee enthusiastically endorses the candidacy of Hillary Rodham Clinton for president of the United States; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that NOW PAC will provide training, tools, and resources to our hundreds of thousands of supporters so that they will be informed and equipped to work as volunteers at the grassroots level to elect feminist candidates and make our dream of a woman president a reality; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that NOW PAC will work to increase public awareness of the extraordinary career, accomplishments and leadership of Hillary Rodham Clinton, and thereby expand support for her candidacy; and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that NOW PAC encourages our members and supporters, women and men from all paths of life who share our dream of a society free of discrimination, to embrace and work tirelessly for the election of Hillary Rodham Clinton as the next president of the United States.
