Christine Jennings (D-Fla., 13th District)

Banker Pushes for a Fresh Strategy to Bolster Economy

Christine Jennings is running to represent Florida's 13th Congressional District. Nationally recognized for her work to protect and advance the rights of women, Jennings will be a staunch advocate in the fight to achieve equality. For this reason, Jennings has earned NOW PAC's endorsement.

Born in Ohio, Jennings credits her parents with teaching her the benefits of hard work early on in life. She moved to Sarasota in 1984 and immediately began working with the Community AIDS Network, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Sarasota Downtown Association, and the Sarasota Film Festival. Jennings has been recognized by the United Negro College Fund, the National Council of Jewish Women and the National Association of Fundraising Executives for her contributions to the social justice movement.

Working in the banking industry at a time when female executives were a rarity, Jennings advanced from the position of teller to founder of the Sarasota Bank. She later served as president, CEO and chair of the bank's Board of Directors.

Jennings is committed to ending the Iraq War, bringing U.S. troops home, balancing the U.S. budget, reducing the national debt and ensuring Medicare, Social Security and other important programs remain strong. Improving health care, securing U.S. ports and borders to increase national security, supporting U.S. veterans, promoting public education, and preserving women's reproductive rights are among her top priorities.
