2008 Elections : NOW PACs Profile
Alice Kryzan (D-N.Y., 26th District)
Alice Kryzan, the Democratic nominee for New York's 26th Congressional District seat, is an environmental attorney who has lived and worked in Western New York for more than 30 years. Alice will be a champion for the middle class families of Western New York, families who have been ignored for too long by Washington special interests and insiders.
Alice has been at the forefront of change for her entire career. She graduated from Trinity University in Washington, D.C. and the University of Chicago Law School, where she was one of only twenty women in her graduating class. After law school, Alice worked at a small law firm and then at the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, where she helped provide a voice to those who needed it most.
After moving to Western New York, she became the first woman partner at what was then the largest law firm in Buffalo and has devoted significant time to helping women through her many community volunteer positions. She has served on the board of the Western New York Women's Fund, a joint project of the United Way of Buffalo and Erie County and the Community Foundation for Buffalo, which provides aid to help women and girls achieve economic self-sufficiency. She also served as the Chair of the Board of Planned Parenthood of Western New York and worked as Treasurer of the Women's TAP Fund, which supports pro-choice women for state and local office.
If elected, Kryzan has pledged to bring good-paying green collar jobs to Western New York, to fight for reliable and affordable healthcare for all, to improve the quality of our public education system, and to bring our troops home safely, securely and soon. She has also vowed to support campaign finance reform to bring greater transparency and accountability to the political process.
