Gary Peters (D-MI, 9th District)
Peters to Bring Accountability to Congress
July 11, 2008
Gary Peters, the Democratic candidate for Michigan's 9th Congressional District, is a former state senator and professor with a strong history of progressive leadership. During his ten-year tenure in the Michigan State Senate, Peters served as the ranking Democrat on numerous influential committees, fighting tirelessly for adequate education funding and environmental protection. In Congress, he plans to lead his fellow legislators to demand greater accountability on countless issues.
Peters brings military and business experience to his congressional campaign. A former Navy reservist, Peters served in active combat during the Persian Gulf conflict and was deployed overseas directly following the September 11th attacks. His military background has inspired him to demand accountability from both the Iraqi government and the presidential administration regarding the progress of the Iraq War. He pledges, if elected, to bring the conflict which has shaped the lives of thousands of Iraqis and Americans to a dignified close.
Peters was famous in the Michigan State Senate for his careful manipulation of his operating budget, a skill based in time spent with several Wall Street firms. In Congress, he will use this meticulous attention to demand fiscal responsibility from Democrats and Republicans alike. Peters also realizes the vital importance of environmental protection, and has resolved to support policies which conserve our natural resources while promoting sustainable development. He has made a lifelong commitment to early education, and will fight, if elected, for educational resources and reduced class size.
