2010 Elections : NOW PACs Profile

David Gill (D-Ill., 15th Congressional District)

David Gill

David Gill

NOW/PAC is pleased to endorse David Gill, a Democrat running for the Illinois 15th Congressional District. Gill prides himself on not being a career politician, but being a regular ER doctor who knows what his constituents need.

Gill feels that his background as a doctor will help him work toward creating a new, fair and cost efficient health care system. He states that we need "a decades overdue 'Medicare for All' health care system" that includes access to birth control, emergency contraceptives, health care for expect mothers, and coverage of abortion for all Medicaid recipients, not just those who need an abortion to save their life or due to rape or incest.

A strong advocate of upholding reproductive freedom for women, Gill supports abortion without restriction. He also wants to focus attention on increasing comprehensive sex education in the school systems to decrease the number of unintended pregnancies.

Gill supports all of NOW's issues and is committed to fighting for equality for all in the workplace, the military, our justice system, and wherever discrimination occurs, He supports civil marriage for same-sex couples, leaving religious marriage to the discretion of individual churches. Gill states, "I will pursue repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act in order to extend full citizenship to gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender Americans." And he supports extending the full range of benefits equally to LGBT citizens, including the right to serve openly in the military by repealing Don't Ask, Don't Tell.

As a physician, Gill works with people everyday, offering solutions based on his experience and the best medical practices available, not politics. Gill promises to do the same in Congress -- he will listen attentively to constituent concerns and work tirelessly to improve their quality of life.
