2010 Elections : NOW PACs Profile

Shelley Madore (D-Minn., 2nd Congressional District)

Shelley Madore

Shelley Madore

Democrat Shelley Madore is running against Dan Powers for Minnesota's Democratic Farmer Labor Party in the state's 2nd Congressional District.

Madore agrees with NOW on important issues such as equal marriage rights, gender equality and accessible health care. She advocates for a woman's right to choose and the need to have comprehensive sex education in schools. She believes that anti-same-sex marriage legislation is discrimination and views it as a civil rights issue.

She also promotes increased public awareness of options available to women who are affected by various forms of violence. She believes that by promoting information about safe houses and support services, we can ensure that women have more protections from various kinds of abuse. Madore will work hard to increase funding for these services and to include this information as part of a comprehensive sex education program for students.

In the Minnesota House of Representatives, Madore has addressed the inadequacies of health care coverage for women, along with the lack of job security and housing assistance. If elected, she pledges to support and promote equal-pay legislation. She will also work to address issues that affect displaced workers through low-income transitional programs and social service programs that help single-parent families succeed.

NOW/PAC supports Shelley Madore's candidacy for the House of Representatives and looks forward to working with her in Washington, D.C., once she is elected.
