Why Hillary? On the Issues

The National Organization for Women applauds the presidential campaigns of Sen. Hillary Clinton and Sen. Barack Obama for their announcement today that Clinton's name will be placed into nomination at the Democratic National Convention.

An inspiring speech: Hillary thanks her supporters for all their hard work on the campaign and endorses Senator Barack Obama for president.

Hillary Clinton's campaign inspired millions of women across the country, and the increased female voter turnout has helped many women running for Congress or local office in those primaries.

Join us in sending a salute to Hillary Clinton, who said on June 3: "I made you -- and everyone who supported me -- a promise: to stand up for our shared values and to never back down. I'm going to keep that promise today, tomorrow, and for the rest of my life."

Kim Gandy writes in her Below The Belt column, "Hillary Clinton's campaign inspired millions of women across the country, and the increased female voter turnout has helped many women running for office - but will those women candidates now face a media gauntlet that is more about their gender than their qualifications?"

The Argus Leader writes, "Clinton is the strongest Democratic candidate for South Dakota. Her mastery of complex policy detail is broad and deep, and her experience as a senator and former first lady matches that."

Join us on Saturday, May 31, when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) Rules Committee is meeting to determine whether delegates from Florida and Michigan will be seated at the party's convention in August.

Before the meeting even gets started, committee members will be greeted by a "Count Every Vote" rally. NOW activists and NOW Political Action Committee (NOW PAC) leaders will be joining our allies from around the country at this action calling on the DNC to count the votes NOW -- come link arms with us tomorrow!

Jonathan Last writes, a "fact of Tuesday's results: Hillary Clinton netted approximately 150,000 votes and is now poised to finish the primary season as the popular-vote leader. In some quaint circles, presumably, these things still matter."

Lois Romano writes in The Washington Post, "In an interview after church services in Bowling Green on Sunday, Clinton for the first time addressed what women have been talking about for months, what she refers to as the 'sexist' treatment she has endured at the hands of the pundits, media and others. The lewd T-shirts. The man who shouted 'Iron my shirt' at a campaign event. The references to her cleavage and her cackle."

Blake Fleetwood writes in The Huffington Post about sexist villification of Hillary Clinton and the media coverage of some of it.
